Ars Macabra – Hate Induced Trance

Yes, they do sort of sound like Marduk. I had to check the player to make sure I hadn’t put in PDM by accident. The similarities are in the simple but catchy guitar parts and the vocal delivery, which, again, reminds one of Legion-era Marduk. While that pretty much says what there is to say about the musical style presented here, it’s still by no means bad, it’s just that there is nothing particularly new going on here, so if you’re looking for innovative black metal, you may want to look elsewhere. Still, if you like this sort of style, this is well played enough that you may want to check it out.

A lot of it is fairly fast and aggressive, but there is some good musicianship here. The song structures are somewhat varied though, with some nice tempo changes and slower, more atmospheric interludes like “Lagerlandschaft41.” The riffs are all pretty good and the songs flow well, there aren’t plagued by the sort of oversimplicity and repetition of a lot of war-metal types of bands. Again, maybe nothing terribly ground-breaking, but well written and listenable just the same.
